The husband, the competitive equestrian, had very little input except that he HAD to have reclaimed rustic timber beams everywhere, but especially on the expansive porches. As you can see, those set the tone for the entire property.
When we first walked the land we met in a small, but well appointed, house at the bottom of the property, toured a very LARGE horse arena and met a few horses and exotic breeds of cattle while the owners’ son and some other boys swam in the stock tank. It was the quintessential ranch property. The obvious spot for the main house across a low water crossing and to the top of the hill overlooking all of this. We set about designing some living spaces to complement the porches that dominated everyone’s thoughts and, eventually, the design. This home truly was designed from the outside in.
