This couple - one European and one Texan - walked in the door wanting a butterfly roof which set the tone for the project. They were willing to do steel and custom roof system and exposed engineered beams and lots of edgy things. One of them works from home so we created a wonderful office for that with good daylighting and a view to the courtyard (which will have a Japanese Maple and other landscaping come spring), but there is a bath adjacent in case it would ever be used as a sleeping room. Fitness is important to both so there is a good exercise room, a lap pool and, in the master, a spa-like bath with shower and tub in one glass enclosure. The owners' suite had to have the best views so is on the second floor, but we created a second master on the first floor for guests and so that they have the option to move downstairs if they want to in the future. Lots of details address the way they live, a door to let the dogs out, one to the backyard from the garage, an extra deep garage bay for an oversized vehicle, an opening to the hall from the kitchen so that the sink could be in the spot they wanted without feeling closed in, a coffee/juice bar for master and exercise room, A long rectilinear tile recess for product at the shower, motorized blinds for non-intrusive window coverings, a niche at the foyer for art glass they owned, and high windows in surprising places. My favorite part is the open staircase in front of the window wall at the courtyard. More subtle, but also very nice is the owners' porch upstairs to the view…
