Millenial Meets Mission Style

This property had level areas at the top and bottom of a significant ledge, but the owners fell in love with the idea of building their home on the drop-off so we put a second garage, workshop and office on the lower level, day-to-day garage, main living and master on the main level and kids world upstairs.

Lots of inspiration photos led us to a sort of Mission/Santa Barbara/Hill Country combination of styles. Lifestyle requirements caused us to create some specialized rooms – like the quiet room for Dad away from the hubbub of family life or the small office for Mom. But, the rest of the home is open living at its best with great room, kitchen and dining related to each other in a T shape which “lives” really well. The master bath is simple but with details like the elliptical barrel vault at the tub that keeps it from being sterile. Storage is good everywhere from the very over-sized pantry and laundry room to walk-out attic and big closets for the boys.

But, the most important thing is the spirit that made the clients want to tackle the difficult multi-level site instead of building on the level areas. That same challenging design program now gives them the spirited family retreat they had hoped for.
